“What are the measures that can be taken to support vulnerable population segments affected by lack of electricity access in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic?” Thursday, 14 May, 14:00 HRS EAT/13.30HRS SAT In sub-Saharan Africa access to electricity in rural areas stands at 25% compared to 75% in urban areas. Up to 595 million people still do not have access to electricity in a season where many people are required to stay at home due to the raging COVID-19 global pandemic. According to GSMA, 75% of these people have mobile phones that need to be charged and they need to stay informed on the measures governments are taking to control the spread of the virus.
The Africa Clean Energy Technical Assistance Facility (ACE TAF) will host the second webinar on Gender and Social Inclusion in the off-grid energy sector counting with the participation of Chandi Mukuyana from SolaNetwork project.
